On the evening of October 30, an English Corner was successfully held on Nanhu Campus of WTU. It was jointly organized by School of Foreign Languages(SFL) and Birmingham Institute of Fashion & Creative Art(BIFCA). Professor Tan Yanbao, dean of SFL, attended the activity, together with the teachers from SFL and BIFCA and 3 foreign teachers from both units. The activity attracted over 200 students on Nanhu Campus, creating a vibrant and interactive atmosphere.
The English Corner was made up of three parts: warm-up activity, free talk and one-minute speech. Guided by foreign teachers and teachers from SFL, students successfully broke the ice in the warm-up activity and engaged in free conversations on various topics including fashion design, culture and arts, and university life. Also, several speakers made one-minute speeches on the given topics. Ben, Isaac and Lance, three foreign teachers, made comments on the speeches and encouraged students to perform better in the coming English Corners in the following weeks.
Professor Tan Yanbao, Dean of School of Foreign Languages, thought highly of the courage and good performance of the students attending the English Corner. She said, “School of Foreign Languages will continue to organize such activities to provide a better stage for you to practice your oral English and cultivate your interest in learning English.” She hoped that students could broaden their international horizon through the communication with foreign teachers and learn to tell China stories well in English in the aspects of costumes and arts.
The English Corner on Nanhu campus hit it big! Students attending it expressed their satisfaction with their own performance and the activity itself. They expected that the next English Corner would come soon. The successful host of English Corner by School of Foreign Languages significantly boosted the students’ enthusiasm for English learning on Nanhu campus, strengthened the collaboration of different faculties and enriched students’ campus cultural life, contributing to the creation of a favorable environment for all-around education under the vision of "A Beautiful WTU".
